TEXTURAL EXPRESSIONS

The series of colorful mixed media works created for this exhibition involve inspiration from photographs, fabrics and other fibres, as well as exciting techniques. Ann creates small images as she experiments with new ideas. Often a series develops as she carries her discoveries to new heights. The miniatures involve working with various media, expanding her usual medium of fabric and threads.

RELATIONSHIPS

The series of colorful fibre works created for this exhibition reflect the thoughts Ann has regarding the delicate balance between man and nature, as well as between human beings. The hands are embroidered by careful examination of Ann's own hands, which shows her own struggle with balance and keeping harmony in life. The hands are often cradling some aspect of our environment or are reaching upward to a superior being, hoping that this super-natural force will help us to maintain balance and bring peace to various segments of the world. Ann feels strongly about protecting the well being of her fellow humans as well as our environment with its amazing array of plant and animal life. This need for mutual support between the various segments of our society is illustrated in the works in this exhibition.

SECRETS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Ann Haessel has created several mixed media works for this series, with doors from around the world as the common theme. Her doors have a touch of realism but many appear semi-abstract because of her choice of color and technique. Each door carries with it a wealth of interpretations and feelings. More works will be added to expand this series beyond the door.
